I use maths mainly to calculate cable and fuse sizes for pumps and equipment used to treat water. The pumps and equipment needed are chosen to help clean chemicals and dirt out of the water supply and it is scientists that tell us what we need to do to make this happen.

Both maths and science are useful to an engineer when making calculations and understanding why things go wrong.

In my current role it helps slightly but as a mechanical design engineer, it was used every day to review designs of pumps and vessels to ensure they were safe and good for the environment
